Mohammed Shami Won’t Walk on the Field Against South Africa

The Indian squad that will face off against South Africa on September 28 will not be joined by Mohammed Shami who is still recovering from the COVID-19 infection which held him back from participating in the series against Australia. The T20 International is missing this talented player who was instrumental in several games.

Everything indicates that Shami is recovering slower than expected

The Indian team arrived at Thiruvananthapuram where the match against South Africa will be played. It is important to get there as early as possible to make all the necessary preparations and catch some training time. The place has already been visited by the South African team that has been in India since Sunday morning.

Shami did not join the team, but the management did not announce any important changes. However, his absence is quite a worrying sign for the team because recovery from COVID-19 is not something that can be estimated reliably. Some people get on their feet in a couple of days while others have to suffer for weeks without any signs of improvement.

Shami must recover soon. His last international appearance on the national squad was in July when the team played against England. T20I matches were played without him this whole time, but he should be ready for the upcoming World Cup in Australia.

Other problems of the Indian national team

Hooda is also not available for the upcoming match against South Africa and missed the series against Australia as well. He injured his back and the trauma turned out to be more complicated than previously thought. It looks like the player will need serious medical attention which means that the Indian national squad will not be able to get him for the World Cup as well.

These two losses severely reduce the chances for the national team to be in its best shape. Only 10 days left until the Indian team will pack their things and travel to Australia to start preparing for the World Cup which may not be enough for Hooda and Shami to get in their best form.
